Responsible Aquamarines From TAWOMA
By
Kerin Jacobs
We’d like to announce our new responsibly-sourced aquamarine inventory. We have an array of shapes and sizes. The cuts are of excellent quality, and the color is the light baby blue that aquamarine stones are famous for.
The stones were sourced through an organization that we are
proud to consistently work with - the Tanzania Women Miners Association
(TAWOMA). TAWOMA is open to women who are involved in small-scale mining and
other related activities. The mission of TAWOMA is to provide female
small-scale miners access to necessary financial, technical and marketing
services in order to enable them to carry out successful mining activities.
TAWOMA places a focus on education as well. The organization carries out
workshops on environmental conservation in mining areas, application of
environmentally-friendly mining methodologies, usage of mercury, identification
of minerals, poverty analysis and reduction, child labor elimination, and
raising awareness of HIV/AIDS in society.
Some of TAWOMA’s achievements include successful lobbying of the government to secure primary prospecting licenses and rights for its members; being chosen as a “Model Association” and participating in a ten-day Trade Finance Clinic held by the World Bank in Washington, DC in 2005; participating in international trade fairs; creating market links with countries worldwide; and serving as a founding member association for the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) which mobilizes female entrepreneurs across the country.
If you are interested in the aquamarines provided by TAWOMA, we look forward to hearing from you. We also carry a variety of other colored gemstones sourced through TAWOMA. Please be in touch for more information: info@therawstone.com
